When studying to become a nurse, the fields of expertise that one may consider to follow are endless. Nurses have very rewarding positions and when studied for the passion thereof, your job will reap its benefits. The American Association of nurse executives is a professional organization that recognizes the importance of nurses who are in leadership roles. Nurse executives have high levels of education and relative years of expertise, their role therefore fulfills amongst others, the inspiring of younger nurses to reach for their dreams because anyone can achieve high rank and prestige in life, it is just simply a matter of hard work, motivation, dedication and passion for what you do.

The American Association of nurse executives states that nurse executives play a key role in focusing not only on the nursing services that are provided but also on patient care services. It is clear to see that this highly ranked and desired position involves extensive years of experience, critical thinking skills and a large amount of knowledge surrounding the practice. As a nurse executive, certain key features are required; this involves the ability to work in collaboration with people from all ethnic backgrounds, cultures and races. This position also involves the ability to be a mentor for others, somebody who motivates others to be the best they can and most importantly, to carry the ability of increasing the overall spirit and motivation between employees within the workplace.

According to the American Association of nurse executives, a person in this important role needs to display leadership within his of her field of work. Leadership spans much further than simply telling other people what to do and having them listen, in fact, it entails everything besides that. As a leader, nurse executive must be role models at all times, this may include being a role model toward all staff and displaying this role model behavior in light of the organizations vision and statement. Secondly, staff must learn how to work together as a team, they must learn communication skills between themselves and the nurse executive must promote cross cultural communication and interacting. The American Association of nurse executives also requires that the nursing executives continue to further their education and to stay knowledgeable regarding evolvements in their field of expertise. To be the best you need to compete with the best and this is only possible when you are willing to work toward it, nurse executives most certainly did not achieve their ranks overnight. As a team player and a team leader, a nurse executive has a very demanding job that requires skill and dedication. Nurse executives all deserve our appreciation and respect, for without their hard work and devotion to the nursing staff, the hospitals would not be as great and valued as they are today.
