Studying for positions in the healthcare industry is challenging and hard work but yet many people follow this direction of careers because of their passion for helping other people. Nursing is a professional career followed by many and it forms part of a very competitive industry. If you should decide to study further within the nursing industry to obtain a Master of Science in nursing or a Doctor’s degree then you may be apply to apply for a nurse manager role. As a nurse manager, your duties and responsibilities will require much skill and professionalism; this is achievable with dedication, hard work and a passion for your career.

A nurse manager’s role is one of leadership. A person would therefore require excellent communication skills with people of all ages, genders and races. Above this, one must be able to work with people from all ethnic backgrounds and be an extrovert. The nurse manger role requires a lot of responsibility and one must be able to accept this challenge and all the duties and responsibilities that are allocated with this skilled and professional line of work. Your duty as a nurse manager pivotally resides with the nurses allocated to a particular unit. Your nurse manager role would be to oversee that all duties and work responsibilities are done in accordance with the organization’s vision and statement. As a nurse manager, you must be a reliable person, the organization should feel that you are able to meet your requirements and fulfill your duties as best as possible, ultimately, the organization would require that you live up to their needs and expectations and portray that for which they stand.

Nurse Manager’s roles also involve the building of team leadership. Nurses within a particular unit should be able to work well together as a team and form a uniform whole; this will ensure the success of a nursing unit. Creativity, critical thinking and energetic performance are a pivotal nurse manager role. Due to the long hours of work and strenuous demand of the institution, one should be aware of the consequences of possible burn out, excessive stress and fatigue that may be suffered. A nurse manager should therefore have excellent skills in coping with such situations so that the role he or she is dutifully fulfilling is not only challenging, but also rewarding. As a nurse manager, role model behavior is of absolute importance. Within a position of authority, one should live and represent the organization for what it stands; this includes the ethics it follows and type of service it offers. As a nurse manager, you will be required to make important decisions within the organization under which you are employed; you might even need to be well trained within the administrative field as this may possibly form part of your required duties.
